The Association
DEMOBALK’s major objectives are to stimulate cooperation between scientists and institutions working on population questions in the Balkans, to promote the exchange of documentation and information, to set up a national and regional demographic database, to stimulate research and comparative studies.

Research
The major axes of research are the demographic situation in the Balkans, the settlement and land development in the Balkan region, the Albanian migration in the 1990s and 2000s, the population ageing in the Balkans since 1950, the national identity in the Balkan countries, and the spatial demography of the Balkans.

Conferences
To date, DEMOBALK has been the central player of four international conferences: in 1996 in Thessalonika (Greece), in 2000 in Sarajevo (BiH), in 2005 in Belgrade (Serbia), and in 2010 in Budva (Montenegro). The topic of the next DEMOBALK’s conference in 2015 will be "The population of the Balkans at the dawn of the 21st century".

Publications
The Association publishes and disseminates books bringing together all or part of the information presented at DEMOBALK conferences and Balkan Demography papers collection (ISSN:1790-595).
