Demobalk Conferences

   
  A. Last Conference: Spatial demography of the Balkans: trends and challenges, Budva, Montenegro, 13-15 May 2010.

To this date, DEMOBALK has been the central player of three international conferences:

  • The first was held in Thessaloniki (26-29 June, 1996) with the support of the International Association of French-speaking Demographers (AIDELF), the Association of Balkan Statisticians (ABS), the Greek National Centre for Social Research (EKKE) and the University of Macedonia at Thessaloniki, and the support of the Council of Europe and the European Commission (EUROSTAT). It brought together around  hundred participants on the topic of: Fifty years of demographic change in the Balkans.
     

  • The second was held in Sarajevo (10-13 May, 2000), in cooperation with the Association of Balkan Statisticians (ABS), and with the support of the European Centre for Statistics and Development (CESD), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the Institut national d'études démographiques (INED) and the International Association of French-speaking Demographers (AIDELF). It brought together some 150 participants, including statisticians, demographers, academics from all countries directly concerned and from many others (Belgium, France, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey), as well as representatives of European and International bodies. The theme was: Changes in the 1990s and the demographic future of the Balkans. Measurement problems and analysis framework.
     

  • The third took place in Belgrade (27-29 October, 2005). Organized in cooperation with the Association of Demographers of Serbia and the Demographic Studies Centre of the Social Science Institute, and with the support of AIDELF, INED and EFTA, it brought together around hundred participants on the theme of: Migration, crises and recent conflict in the Balkans.

 

In June 2000, in collaboration with the University of Bari, DemoBalk also organized a private international seminar on the theme: Population and migration in the Balkans .
