The Department of Planning and Regional Development (Laboratory of Demographic and Social Analyses) of the University of Thessaly (Greece) and the Institute of Demography Studies and the Center of Development Economics of the University Montesquieu - Bordeaux IV (France) offer a joint Greek-French post-graduate Programme leading to an M.Sc. degree in Demography and the Economics of Development and Integration (with specialization in Population, Development and Foresight). This joint Master's degree programme accepting its first students in the academic year 2005-2006, it is a one-year course (two semesters) and comprises 4 modules followed by practicum and the submission of an extended dissertation.

The aim of the Programme is to provide graduates of various disciplines and background with specialization concerning the cross-cutting issues of demography and sustainable development, the knowledge of which is a prerequisite for strategic planning at all spatial levels. Its graduates are ideally trained to engage in a consulting or executive capacity in the broad field of development planning at central and regional levels. The theory and practice of the educational process are based on an interdisciplinary approach which is necessitated by the character of the scientific fields involved.

The lectures and examinations are in French and the suggested literature in French and English. Thus, sufficient knowledge of these two languages is a prerequisite.
